21 Dec 2017

Villagers from Khoardanga and Marakhata villages of Kamakhyaguri area in Kumargram block agitated for hours today alleging that power grid authority deprived them of due compensations as promised before.
The agitation continued till BDO of Kumargram held a meeting with power grid representatives and aggrieved villagers in presence of the people’s representatives in the afternoon and assured to resolve the matter. According to the villagers, high-tension wires were taken over the villages by power grid authorities. “As an effect agriculture at the locality has been adversely affected. It’s now a question of our living. We were promised due compensation by power grid authorities before. But no compensation has come so far. Hence, we are forced to resort to agitation,” said a senior villager.
The villagers further said that they were asked to register their grievances at Kamakhyaguri police outpost but none was available to listen to their statement. It was then they started agitating. Afterwards, the aggrieved villagers were told to go to BDO office where power grid representatives spoke to them and assured to compensate them as decided before. BDO Lakpa Shiring Bhutia said: “We held an all-party meeting. Power grid authority assured to pay the dues. We hope that the matter would be resolved shortly”. (EOIC)
