Another migrant labourer killed, this time in Gujarat

Death of yet another migrant labourer on Christmas eve has caused stir at North Point area in Alipurduar police station. It has been alleged that Madhu Sarkar, 22, working at a sawmill employee at place under Ankleshwar police station in Gujarat was beaten to death by a gang of miscreants on Dec 24.
Mala Sarkar, mother of the deceased migrated labourer said that Madhu went to Gujarat four years back with the hope of earning higher than his income at native place.
“He was my elder son. Entire family was dependent on his income. He spoke to me over telephone for the last time on Dec 21. On Dec 25 we came to know that Madhu was killed by local goons. We are neither learned nor solvent enough to get back his body,” she said wailing.
Sumita Sarkar, Madhu’s 18-year old sister, who is supposed to be married in a couple of months, said, “We have heard that those criminals mercilessly beat him from pillar to post and killed. Although we have heard that local police arrested two of the criminals, we are not satisfied. We want exemplary punishment for all of them.”
Locals said that the family would be helped to take up the matter with district and police administrations immediately. (EOIC)
