Mob fury at Torsha tea-garden in Alipurduar after neighbour attempts to rape housewife

Tension gripped Torsha tea-garden in Kalchini block of the district after a housewife with her neck slashed was found lying in  a drain today  morning. According to police a 65-year old neighbour of the housewife identified as Samsuddin Mia allegedly attempted to rape her in presence of her kids and stabbed her as she resisted the attempt on Wednesday night.
According to police the husband of the housewife works in Bhutan. On the day of the incident the woman was sleeping along with her two daughters and just at that time the accused made his way to her bed room and allegedly tried to rape her. As the housewife thwarted his attempt, Mia allegedly stabbed her neck with a knife and left her beside a  drain near her residence. The angry mob set the house of Mia on fire. They  blocked the Bhutan road demanding immediate arrest of the culprit.
An engine of fire-brigade from Hasimara reached the spot to extinguish the fire. Additional SP, Jaigaon Ganesh Biswas also arrived at the spot with a large contingent of police to bring the situation under control.
The blockade was lifted after Biswas assured prompt arrest of the culprit. The injured housewife was admitted to Alipurduar district hospital. Police also said that the accused was at large but searches were underway to arrest him.
