Linkmen of Kamtapur Liberation Organization (KLO) met Alipurduar MLA and chairman of Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) Saurav Chakraborty with the appeal of getting financially support with the help of state government.
Chakraborty received the memorandum from the delegation of KLO linkmen and assured them to take up the matter with the state government. It may be mentioned that the state government engaged few militants formerly associated with KLO in police and other organizations. KLO linkmen, who claim to have no connection with militant outfit now, demanded similar facilities from the state government.
Jyotish Roy, a former linkman of KLO from Maynaguri said, “Many KLO militants already received job from the state government. We responded to the call of the state government of dissociating ourselves with militants. Now, we have no steady source of income. So, we want help from the state government to be financially independent.”
Chakraborty assured to look into the request of former KLO linkmen sympathetically. “At least 600 youths acted as linkmen of KLO in three districts of North Bengal before. Many of them were arrested in Left Front regime and now released. We want them to be in the main stream of the society. I would request the chief minister to consider their plea on humanitarian ground,” he said.
