India considers Chinese OBOR (One Belt One Road) violates its sovereignty and territorial integrity by way of setting up China-Pakistan – Economic – Corridor (CPEC) – the flagship project of OBOR initiative. CPEC passes through Gilgit- Baltistan in Pakistan-occupied Indian territory in Kashmir. New Delhi refused to be bullied by the Chinese threat that India will be isolated while all its neighbours supported the OBOR. CPEC is one of the six projects of OBOR.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi enters his fourth year in office next week, he is confident that he will not only complete his present term but also come back after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The opposition still has two years to challenge Modi and his BJP. His confidence stems from the fact that the weak opposition has not been able to get its act together and has allowed the BJP to expand its base and overtake Congress in becoming a pan national party.

The CPM is fast losing its relevance in State politics. The unexpected rise of the BJP is threatening it to lose its traditional bastions in rural areas. That too at a time when the panchayat elections are looming ahead. The CPM desperately needed some media publicity, some attention from an otherwise indifferent public and a little more attention from the State Government as an opposition party.
