ANI betters ratings in NITI Aayog’s health index

In some relief for the administration’s health department, NITI Aayog’s latest document on health outcomes covering all States and Union Territories has recorded some positives in healthcare system in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Erratic supply of refills of the essential cooking gas continues to inconvenience consumers in different villages in the Middle Andaman region. According to report, majority of the hamlets in and around Rangat have not received LPG refills for the past two months forcing homemakers to turn to firewood to keep their kitchen fires burning.

As the overland connectivity in Andaman and Nicobar islands is poised to get a boost, with the Ministry of Railways green-signalling plans for construction of a railway line linking Port Blair, the capital of the island chain, with Diglipur, the largest town of North Andaman Island, the tourism avenues especially along the Jarawa reserve areas is going to open up anew and in the context of the jubilating fact that the number of Jarawas presently are on the rise.

Indians gave the zero to the world. Indian sages understood zero to mean absolute nothingness as well as its potential for infinite power. For them, the zero was not just an entity in the place value system, it had a philosophical connotation. The quintessential Indian spirituality saw everything originating in shunya, the Indian word for zero, and ending up in shunya, or nirvana, a state of total bliss in which nothing mattered. There are even suggestions that the mathematical zero originated in the spiritual shunya.

The tiny island nation of Maldives, lying in the Indian Ocean south-west of Sri Lanka, is currently in the grip of a crisis. Its present president, Abdulla Yameen, is bent on being in power. Twelve Opposition Members of Parliament were disqualified on technical grounds. Earlier this month, a full bench of the Maldives Supreme Court set aside that order. A furious ordered the army to storm the Supreme Court building and arrest the Chief Justice and another judge of the apex court.
