Unidentified person(s) broke into a temple here and decamped with money kept in “hundi” boxes. According to source, the theft came to light after the priest went to the Maa Santoshi Temple for morning prayers on Monday. The temple committee immediately informed the burglary to the police after which a case under relevant sections of the law has been registered.

India’s stagnant economy will be entering fiscal 2019 on the back of relatively poorer performance for two successive years (FY16-18), and well below 7 per cent growth in real terms in fiscal 18, amid global headwinds of market volatility, rising inflation and interest rate hikes charted by US Fed. Most corruption cases have a political connection in one way or the other. So whenever a new scam is unearthed, there are allegations and counter allegations. Invariably, the party facing the embarrassment accuses those arraigned on the other side of politicising the issue.

That the probe agencies of the Centre are misused by the party in power – whichever party it is – is well known. Once during the UPA regime the Supreme Court called the CBI a “caged parrot”.  Even after this admonition, the CBI has not changed. Only its political masters have.
