Fire fighters averted a mishap at the State Bank of India, Main Branch on Friday. The accident occurred at around 8 pm when fire was reported from the building of the lead bank. Acting promptly on the call, the fire fighters from Aberdeen Fire Station with two fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.

There are now clear indications of MP Congress chief Kamal Nath and campaign committee chief Jyotiraditya Scindia working in greater coordination. Even there are no negative reports about coordination with Digvijaya Singh. A high level meeting was held in New Delhi to discuss the kick-off of the Congress campaign in the state. According to reports, the Congress president will launch a state-wide tour in September. A senior leader confirmed that Rahul will launch the campaign from Omkareshwar temple in Khandwa district.

After reserving judgment in Section 377 case, the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court has embarked on the contentious case of challenging the prohibition of the entry of women (from 10 years to 50 years) into the famous Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala, Kerala [Indian Young Lawyers Association v State of Kerala, Writ Petition (Civil) No. 373 of 2006].

Allegations of corruption in defence deals, of inflated prices, of cut money paid and received, of arbitrarily changing specifications initially settled, etc., have been made repeatedly, involving politicians and defence officials. The Bofors scandal haunted Rajiv Gandhi till his death. During the Kargil war, allegations of corruption in buying coffins for the dead soldiers were made against the then Defence Minister George Fernandes. Corruption allegations were made again in the deal to buy Agusta Helicopters for VVIPs.
