Police crack Selvi murder case, juvenile arrested

The South Andaman Police on Monday claimed to have solved the Selvi murder case revealing that the heinous crime was result of desire for an expensive mobile phone. The police team have arrested the accused, a juvenile, who confessed to having murdered Selvi, 40 years, wife of Mr Ganapati, resident of Ranchi Basti.

AAJVS worker commits suicide

A four month old child from the Shompen tribe in Great Nicobar has been referred to GB Pant Hospital for expert medical care. As per sources, the baby was brought to the Shompen Sarai from where the AAJVS workers sent her to the Primary Health Centre of Campbell Bay on Sunday.

It’s been 44 years, come August 8-9, 1974, since Republican President Richard M. Nixon resigned in disgrace – before being thrown out of the Oval Office via impeachment and conviction – due to the accumulated scandals, constitutional crimes and cover-ups collectively known as Watergate.

Somnath Chattopapdhyay passed away at a time when the country needed him most to retain its democratic and secular constitution and polity, to resist the onslaughts on the sovereignty of Parliament. As a Speaker of the Lok Sabha he was very fair and gave more scope to the Opposition members as he knew that the highest tribune of the people should give more scope to the Opposition than the Treasury benches. A gentleman to a fault, his courtesy and dignified deportment was exemplary.
