Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today arrived at Bagdogra airport amidst tight security for her five-day visit to Kalimpong hills. She arrived around 3 pm at Bagdogra airport and proceeded towards Delo in Kalimpong without uttering a single word with Siliguri scribes. A huge crowd including hundreds of Trinamool Comgress supporters gathered at the airport to greet the chief minister.
Meanwhile members of social organisation Chetnashil Sangarshrat Jamat of Upper Bagdogra also reached airport along with students to place demand for up gradation of the Gandhi Memorial Nepali High School at Upper Bagdogra to senior secondary level. It is the only Nepali school for the region presently having classes up to secondary level.
Manmaya Chhetri member of the organisation said, “There are hundreds of students who have to take trouble to travel long distance for higher secondary education. There are students from lower middle class families who have to bear the cost of sending their children to schools with secondary section. We request the chief minister to do what is needed to do.''
