Dalai Lama presented KISS Humanitarian Award

The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences presented its Humanitarian Award 2017 to the Dalai Lama at here on Tuesday. Saswati Bal, President, KIIT and KISS and Prof. Achyuta Samanta, founder of the two institutions jointly handed over the award to the Dalai Lama at a well-attended function.

The recognises his “concern for the oppressed human beings” who need  compassion. He is a beacon of hope, aspiration and inspiration for the millions of people across the world and is known for his struggles and sacrifices for  people’s causes, the citation noted.

In his acceptance speech, the Dalai Lama called for making this century a century of compassion and peace. “Previous century was marred by violence - There were world wars in which atom bombs were also used. Brains of brilliant scientists were utilised for destruction. Let the 21st century be the century of compassion and peace. World peace can be achieved only by inner peace”, the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize winner said. (EOIC)
