Facing stiff competition from the state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, private cellular service provider, Bharti Airtel, is ramping up services in the North and Middle Andaman region. According to reports, Airtel commissioned a mobile tower at Billyground in Middle Andaman recently which is expected provide consistent coverage to subscribers in at least four Panchayats in the region.
The newly commissioned mobile tower of Airtel is located near Billyground bazaar. Subscribers of Airtel in Panchayat areas like Harinagar, Swadesh Nagar, Basantipur and Shivapuram will be benefited from the initiative, who were earlier deprived of the services. Reports suggest that the agency has plans to install more such mobile towers in other parts of the region soon. “Airtel services are sometimes found more dependable than BSNL and many people here had Airtel connections with them. But in the absence of mobile tower, they were unable to use the services. Installation of the mobile tower has brought  huge respite among mobile users in this region, who often face hardships due to disruption in BSNL services,” said a villager of Billyground.
