Shortage of fuel has thrown life out of gear again for residents of the Great Nicobar region. This time it’s HSD crisis at the Power Generation Unit. Power consumers are forced to bear with long hour power-cuts for the past few days. Government agencies have, however, assured that fuel stock will be replenished with the arrival of the next cargo vessel after which normalcy in power supply will be restored.
“Great Nicobar has been long suffering from recurring shortage of fuel. HSD stocks are close to exhaustion in the Power offices here and the agency has imposed daily power-cut for around 6 hours from 4 am in the morning. We don’t know when fuel stocks would arrive and till then we are left with no other option than to bear the blackouts. We pin hopes on the administration that a permanent solution will be worked out to address the chronic problem in the interest of the population residing in this remote region,” said a resident of Jetty Bazar area.
