The scheduled sailing of MV Campbell Bay, which was blocked by protestors, was allowed after which the vessel set sails for Port Blair at around 3 pm today.
Shopkeepers in Campbell Bay region had called a bandh on Thursday to protest against recurring shortage of essential commodities.   Major among other demands of the agitators included adequate allocation of cargo tonnage in vessels to and fro Campbell Bay to ensure availability of essential commodities in the region. Deficient supply of cargo has been one of the major concerns of the local traders here causing them losses for the past many months. They pressed for allocation of atleast 50 ton cargo containing essential commodities in vessels scheduled to and fro Port Blair and Campbell Bay via Kamotra.
