Following assurance by the Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar District, ex-servicemen of Great Nicobar region met on Thursday at the Sainik Sarai here. The meeting held under the chairmanship of Mr Ranjit Kumar Singh, Ex-servicemen association of Campbell Bay resolved to submit a representation to the district administration for redressal of their demands mainly revision of pay scale after the 6th and 7 Central Pay Commission, adequate facilities at the Sarai Sarai.
Ex-servicemen in the region have been upset with the district administration for its failure to furnish the Sainik Sarai at Campbell Bay. Even after more than a year since its renovation and launch by the then Lt. Governor of A & N Islands, Lt. General AK Singh (retd), the Sainik Sarai lacks basic facilities reducing it to a redundant building. Essential requirements like furniture, accommodation facilities, curtains, canteen facility etc to ensure decent stay for ex-servicemen in the region have still not been provided at the Sarai. However, the Deputy Commissioner of the region during his recent visit assured to do the needful for the benefit of the ex-servicemen community.
