Residents welcome intensified patrols by cops at Campbell Bay

In a welcome step, the Police force posted here has made regular patrols more effective to prevent crimes. According to reports, special teams have been constituted by the Station House Officer of Police Station, Campbell Bay under instructions from senior officials of the Andaman and Nicobar Police, to intensify surveillance, particularly in view of the ensuing summer vacations. Cops on the ground have also been instructed to be more careful in preventing crimes and to be more sensitive while investigating cases.
“The initiative of the police here has come as a great relief for the population here particularly government employees. Many government workers are scheduled to leave for their hometowns during the summer vacations from May 1 this year leaving behind their household items at the government quarters. The recent surge in robberies had become a cause of concern for the people here, but directions for effective patrols particularly during night hours has come as a relief,” said a government staff posted at Campbell Bay.
The move to intensify patrols was set into motion after a series of theft reports from different parts of the region. Recently, burglars broke into Maa Santoshi Temple here decamped with money kept in “hundi” boxes. Earlier, two thefts were reported in the area including one at Sai Baba Temple here in which thieves stole money from the hundi boxes. The Police is still in the hunt to nab the culprits in the burglary cases.
