Theft in Maa Santoshi Temple reported

Unidentified person(s) broke into a temple here and decamped with money kept in “hundi” boxes. According to source, the theft came to light after the priest went to the Maa Santoshi Temple for morning prayers on Monday. The temple committee immediately informed the burglary to the police after which a case under relevant sections of the law has been registered. According to reports, the temple committee suspected that the theft might have been committed in the wee hours of Monday. Thieves broke open the hundi box and decamped with cash and other valuables. The Campbell Bay Police has registered a case and a hunt has been launched to nab the accused persons.
There has been sudden rise in burglaries in temples in the Great Nicobar region recently. Earlier, two thefts were reported in the area including one at Sai Baba Temple here in which thieves stole money from the hundi boxes. The Police, however, have not been able to crack the cases so far and investigation in the thefts is currently in progress.
