World Soil Day at Carnic by ICAR-KVK

The World Soil Day was celebrated by ICAR-KVK-Nicobar under ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair with the Nicobari tribal farmers and students on Tuesday at Community Hall, Arong Village. 160 Nicobari farmers from Arong and Kimious village, Car Nicobar participated in which Mr. Sanjay Kumar Pandey, SMS (Agro.), Dr. Zachariah George, SMS (AS), Dr. Sujatha Hegade, SVO and Ms. Rizwana Banu, AFA delivered lectures on importance of soil, its health management and celebration of WSD. The Chief Guest, Mr. Gedion Lampson, 1st Headman, Village Council Arong expressed his happiness on celebration of the World Soil Day at Arong village and led the  awareness march around the village.

Mr. Reginald Watchful, 1st Headman, Kimious distributed the Soil Health Card to the tribal farmers. The celebration of WSD at Govt. Secondary School, Arong was attended by 40 students and teachers. The students participated in drawing, speech and quiz competitions and the winners were given cash prizes. Mr. Sanjay Kumar Pandey welcomed the gathering and explained the students on the importance of the day and soil. Dr. Zachariah George extended vote of thanks. The event was organised under the overall supervision and guidance of Dr. A. Kundu, Director (Acting), ICAR-CIARI Port Blair and Dr. Nagesh Ram, Sr. Scientist and Head, in-charge KVK-Nicobar.
