CLW builts 1st electric locomotive with toilet facility for Loco Pilots

3 Jun 2017

Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) turned out the First Electric locomotive (31952) of WAG-9H type with inbuilt microprocessor based vacuum toilet and bio digester system for the benefit of Loco pilots.

The locomotive was flagged off by V P Pathak, general manager from the loco siding inside workshop.  Senior Officers along with staff of CLW were present on the occasion. It is a fact that Loco pilots have to do strenuous duties for long hours and those working in goods train do not get a chance to relieve themselves because of lack of on board toilet facilities on such trains. To comply the announcement made by the railway miniter during budget speech, CLW designed a cubicle type toilet facility for the loco pilots. This facility will be very useful for the pilots while performing their duties and will certainly provide relief to them.

This assumes special significance towards Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan in which the Union government has resolved to create adequate and appropriate facilities so that no one is forced to relieve outside in open. It is worth mentioning that CLW has been adopting technological as well as ergonomical changes in manufacturing of locomotives from time to time to ensure proper and congenial working conditions for safe, punctual and efficient running of train.
