Unrest continues unabated in Dinhata although Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her last administrative meeting in the district asked police to take all steps to curb violence. The CM is coming to the district again to preside over a district level administrative review meeting shortly again. But political violence and anti-social activities are still plaguing Dinhata.
Marneya Bazaar area in Dinhata II block was rocked with violence on Monday evening as  armed miscreants dominated the area for quite some time. In addition to hurling bombs one after another, the miscreants indulged in firing too.
A businessman identified as Manik Roy was injured in the attack by the miscreants and had to be rushed to hospital. Roy is still under treatment. The miscreants ransacked party office of Trinamool Congress after bombing there. Panicked people ran away as the gang of miscreants freely continued dominating the locality.
Police rushed to the spot but none of the miscreants could be arrested. A crude live bomb was found before the Trinamool office and another two live bombs found from Tiadaha village.
It may be mentioned that violent clashes between Trinamool and youth Trinamool workers have been rampant in the district for last few months. Party supremo Mamata Banerjee issued strong directives to district leadership to abstain from factional clashes on numerous occasions.
But the violence on Monday night that neither the grass-root workers of the ruling party paid any heed to their supremo’s words nor the district leadership succeeded in discouraging such violent trend.
It is being suspected that the miscreants, who targeted the Trinamool office in Dinhata II block on Monday night were provoked by some youth Trinamool workers.
North Bengal development minister and party’s senior leader Rabindranath Ghosh, however, washed his hands of Monday’s unrest claiming that party had no connection with anti-social activities in Dinhata.
Bhola Nath Pandey, superintendent of police said that police were looking into the matter. The live bombs found from different areas in Dinhata II block were defused. Searches were on to arrest the miscreants, the SP said.
Ghosh and SP, Cooch Behar today inspected the auditorium where the CM would be holding the administrative meeting shortly. The auditorium was named as ‘Utsav’ by the Chief Minister herself. (EOIC)
