Adventure Camp by NYK at Diglipur

Nehru Yuva Kendra, Port Blair organised a 7 day residential Adventure Camp from Feb 22, 2018 at Diglipur under the Scheme of National Programme for Youth Adolescent Development, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. NPYAD has been formulated by merger of four 100% central sector grants-in-aid schemes of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports during 10th Plan namely, Promotion of Youth Activities & Training, Promotion of National Integration, Promotion of Adventure and Development and Empowerment of Adolescents. Promotion of Adventure is one of the significant components. 25 participants from Nehru Yuva Kendras Port Blair, Rangat and Diglipur are participating. In inaugural function on 23/02/2018 Mr. Shailendra Kumar Singh, Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur, North Andaman was the Chief Guest while Mr. Kanta Rao, Assistant Director (Sports) Vivekandanda Mini Stadium, Diglipur was the guest of honour. Mr. Kundan Lal District Youth Coordinator, NYK, Port Blair welcomed all. The chief guest advised participants to take safety measures before going for treks and maintain discipline.
Mr. Alphonce Toppo, District Youth Coordinator, NYK, Rangat proposed the vote of   thanks. The chief guest flagged off the contingent.  The participants visited Smith Island accompanied by Mr. Lester JM Lobo, Forest Ranger, Arial Bay and other forest officials. They were familiarized with beauty of floura & fanna. On 24/02/2018 trekking started from Range Office, Lemiya Bay to Saddle Peak at 07.00 AM flagged off by Mr. KP Abdul Rasheed, Forest Ranger Wild Life Division, Kalara, North Andaman. The team was lead by Mr. Alphonce Toppo as all participans gathered at the top of Saddle Peak where National Anthem was sung. On return all participants shared their adventurous experiences  and thanked NYK. In the evening traditional cultural programme was held with villagers of Lemiya Bay. After trekking they reached Ram Nagar Gram Panchayat. Mr. Swapan Biswas, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Ram Nagar welcomed them. The Pradhan also spoke on Central schemes like Swachhta, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Adarsh Gram Yojna. On 26/02/2018 trekking commenced from Ram Nagar to Alfred Caves and back to Diglipur and 27th February to Kalpong Dam. The valedictory function was held at Vivekananda Mini Stadium, Diglipur. Mr. Sasi Kumar, Deputy Education Officer, North Andaman interacted with participants. He said adventure give us excitement and strength to face challenges in life. Earlier Mr. Lal briefed about the camp and Mr. Toppo proposed the vote of thanks.
