Four members of football team die in car crash near Dikchu

In a major road accident at 3rd Mile on the Dikchu – Rakdong road in East Sikkim late on Thursday evening, four members of a football team were killed and six others injured when the Mahindra Bolero Plus in which the team was travelling plunged off the road and fell into a ravine. The soccer team was returning from Khamdong village in East Sikkim after playing a match at the ongoing annual Independence Day football tournament.
The four occupants of the vehicle who succumbed to their injuries have been identified as: Satish Singh, resident of Dikchu New Market, Tara Chettri, resident of Jang Busty and Sandesh Rai and Raj Kumar Rai from Aapdara, Lower Tintek in East Sikkim.  The deceased Raj Kumar Rai was was driving the vehicle. 
The six others injured are Bikash Sunam, resident of Dikchu New Market, Tilak Sharma, resident of Dikchu Bazar and Arun Rai, Ashish Rai, Arpan Rai, and Binod Tamang, residents of Jang Busty, Lower Rakdong, East Sikkim. The injured were rushed to the Central Referral Hospital in Gangtok.
The cause of accident is yet to ascertained.The police said that while none of the survivors was in a state to say what led to the tragic incident, investigators suspectes that heavy rainfall in the area and low visibility at the sharp mountain turns in the highway could have led the driver to lose control over the vehicle.
