46th National Safety Day observed at DSP

Durgapur Steel Plant joined the nation in observing the 46th National Safety Day on Saturday. The observance will continue up to Monday.  The observance started with safety flag hoisting at Ispat Bhawan followed by safety oath taking, which was administered by the senior officials of the plant. A section of employees participated in the program. DSP gives top most priority on safety and continuously promotes ‘Safety as a way of life’ among the employees, contractors’ workers and other stakeholders. During the observance, several safety awareness programs and workshops will be organized for the employees, contractors’ workers, school children and housewives.
The initiative to observe the day was taken up by the National Safety Council (NSC) of India. NSC was set up by the Ministry of Labour, Govt. of India on 4th March, 1966 as an autonomous body to generate, develop and sustain a voluntary movement on Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) at the national level. Subsequently, it was decided that the 4th March will be commemorated as the National Safety Day every year. Since 1972, this day is being observed as the National Safety Day throughout the country.
