DSP organises Rural Football Championship, 2017-18

Under the CSR scheme, Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) organized Grameen Football Pratiyogita, 2017-18 for the surrounding villages of the steel township. The final match between Piyala Adivasi Sporting Club and Parulia Adibasi Gloden Club took place at the Nehru Stadium in the steel township on Saturday and Piyala Adivasi Sporting Club emerged as the winner in the championship by 4-1 goals in the tie breaker. In the girls group, Riyar Jharna Gawanta of Barafkal, Durgapur became the champion by defeating Ardhagram West Zone Football Academy of Ranigunj by 3-1 goals in the tie breaker.
Mr. A K Rath, CEO, DSP along with other senior officials of DSP was present during the final match. A large number of spectators including villagers from the neighboring region turned up to witness the final match. “One of the focus areas of DSP’s CSR activities is to promote games and sports in the region. We make sincere efforts for it. The Grameen Football Pratiyogita has indeed become very popular in the region.  It is heartening to see this year’s championship creating such a huge interest and participation from the surrounding villages”, said Mr. A K Rath, CEO, DSP. The selection process for the teams for the final match was done systematically over last one month. Zonal matches were organised at different peripheral villages, wherein 12 boys and 4 girls’ teams took part. (EOIC)
