Boost for SDF: 1100 opposition members join ruling party

In a major boost for the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front as many as 1100 members from various opposition parties mainly from Sikkim Krantikari Morcha and Hamro Sikkim today joined ruling Sikkim Democratic Front party here at Samman Bhawan. The new members were welcomed by party chief and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling. who handed over party flags to them.
The event comes at a time when the opposition SKM is all set to celebrate its 7th foundation day on February 4.
The members came from different constituencies like  Rhenock, Martam Rumtek, West Pandam , Gyalshing Bermoik, Maneybong Dentam and Rinchenpong Constituency. 
``Let's not talk about the past. We should move forward for state's development,'' the chief minister told the new members.
He also added that there is no good programme in the hand of opposition party so they only know how to criticise our programmes.
He also said that SDF was the only party which worked for women's empowerment. ``We have made the  Succession Act through which women can inherit father's property. Now even Sikkim women marrying people from outside  are entitled for government jobs which the previous government did not allow''  Chamling  said.
