CM Chamling exhorts youth to join organic movement

Sikkim Organic Day Cum Two Days Krishi Unnati Mela jointly organized by Food Security & Agriculture Development Department, Horticulture & Cash Crops Development Department, and ICAR- National Organic Farming Research Institute was held at Manan Kendra today.
Chief Minister Pawan Chamling attended the event as Chief Guest along with SLA Speaker K.N Rai , Minister for Agriculture and Horticulture Somnath Poudyal , Chief Secretary A.K Shrivastava, MLAs, HODs and Senior Officials from the Government.
Chamling today while addressing the event  said that after becoming a fully Organic State the next  challenge for the state is to attract youth to take up organic  farming and to give continuity to the organic farming. He further added, in order to give continuity people should not leave any land uncultivtated and people of the state to take it further.
Sikkim observes January 18 as 'Organic Day' since 2017 after the declaration of Sikkim as first organic state in the whole country on this day 2016 . The declaration was made by  Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his maiden visit to the state last year.
After the Prime Minster 's declaration last year, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling immediately declared that every year 18th January  will be celebrated as Sikkim Organic Day
