International Yoga Day in Gangtok

The 4th International Yoga Day was observed on Thursday at Paljor Stadium, Gangtok. Organized by Sikkim State AYUSH and the Department of Health Care, Human Services & Family Welfare, students from several schools in and around Gangtok took part in the demonstration of different asanas along with members of Sikkim Police, ITBP, Red Cross Society, Art of Living, Sant Nirankari Mission, Marwari Yuva Manch, IRB, NSS, NCC, NYK, SSB and SAP. Yoga instructor, AYUSH, Jaganath Niroula directed the asanas.
Governor Shriniwas Patil said he was proud that a healthy practice like yoga was an identity of the Indians. “It is our duty to carry forward this exercise with pride.” He said yoga united people of all caste, creed, communities and countries. He lauded that the State Government had made yoga a part of the school curriculum and was convinced that a healthy programme would enhance the students’ lives. As Sikkim was blessed with a salubrious and clean environment, it was a perfect place to practice yoga and make it a part of our daily lives, he said. (EOIC)
