Mountain biking competition in Sikkim

The Sikkim Mountain Biking Competition was flagged off on Sunday. The competition was held as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi whose 150th birth anniversary the nation is celebrating this year. The competition was organized by Sikkim Department of Sports and Youth Affairs. The competition was flagged off by Gangtok MLA Pintso Chopel Lepcha.
The competition was open and was flagged from off from M.G. Marg on Sunday morning. The competitors covered Tashi View Point, Pangthang Samdong, Upper Tumin, Khamdong and Sang Rumtek covering 64 kilometres.  One of the aims of the competition was to promote adventure tourism in the state.
The prizes for the three top winners are Rs 30,000, Rs 20, 000 and 10000 respectively for the first, second and third positions. There are also 10 consolation prizes of Rs 5000 each. A total of 39 participants took part in the competition, including two women riders.
