‘Nathu La the preferred route for Kailash-Mansarovar yatra’

A closing programme to felicitate and thank the concerned departments, stake holders and officials involved in the Kailash Mansaovar Yatra 2018 via Nathu La was organized by the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department and Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation on Saturday.
The chief guest for the event was Sikkim Chief Secretary A.K Shrivastava. Tourism and Civil Aviation Secretary C.P Dhakal, Energy & Power Secretary K.B Kunwar; DIG ITBP Kapil Dwivedi and Chief Engineer (Swastik) BRO Shri Harendra Kumar were also present.
In his address, the Chief Secretary expressed satisfaction at the milestones that the Tourism Department had achieved and said that there was no dearth of work in the tourism sector. He thanked the Chief Minister for re-opening the Nathu La trade route which had led to the strengthening of the Sino-Indian relations, thus making the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage via Nathu La also, successful. He applauded the efforts of all the concerned agencies and departments involved, from transport to health to energy and power, IPR, ITBP, BSNL, NDRF, BRO and the 17th Mountain Division.
The Tourism Secretary gave a detailed account of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Nathu La since its inception in 2015. He also spoke on the importance of culture and hospitality that Sikkim provided to the yatris. “It is our tradition to host the pilgrims,” he said. The efforts of the Chief Minister to turn Sikkim into a destination for pilgrimage tourism was a dream of all the people and the department would leave no stone unturned in achieving this. Compared to the other routes to Kailash - Mansarovar, via Nepal and Lipulekh, th Nathu La route was more preferred and had a success rate of 98 per cent, he said
Khadas and mementos were handed over also to Sikkimese Yatris who had completed the pilgrimage successfully in the previous years. (EOIC)
