Members of Sikkim Progressive Youth Forum (SYYF) today finally agreed to shift their protest rally from Titanic Park to the District Court here at Sichey, Gangtok in East Sikkim after  persuasion by Sikkim Police. The Sikkim police provided them blankets and the young men got some rest after their four day 'Gangtok Chalo' march demanding better health facilities at Gyalshing Hospital.
The protesters who demanded adequate health care facilities as per Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) said they would  not quit till their demands were met. They also demanded that the health secretary and health minister come and talk to them. Both, however,  are out of the State at the moment.
Meanwhile, Dr T Namgyal, Chief Medical Officer, Geyzing Hospital who came to the protest site claimed that 95 per cent of the demands of the SPYF had been met and there has been much improvement in health services at the hospital over the last one year. He also said that the hospital now had 15 specialists and 5 surgeons would be appointed soon.
However the protesters said that these claims of improvements were not true and much more needed to be done. They also said that if their demands were not met they would continue with their protest. (EOIC)
