Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today said that the Sherpa community must clearly understand that Revnue Order No. 1 was an old Revenue law and protected under constitution. He also said that the Sherpa community got Scheduled Tribe status in 1978. They ( Sherpa) can only contest under Bhutia seats of the Assembly but their right doesn't extend to the land protection of the Bhutia Lepcha (BL) communities. They can only contest for BL seats and  their land cannot be protected under Revenue Order number 1.
The Chief Minister has repeatedly  said that the Sherpa community cannot be brought under the revenue order number 1 (a pre-merger rule) of Sikkim where Bhutia and Lepcha community's land and other rights are preserved.
But Denzong Sherpa Association ( DSA) is demanding that the  Sherpa community be brought under the Revenue Order Number 1.  In this regard DSA is organising a mega convention in order to create awareness among the community. The event has been named "Solidarity Meet“ which will basically discuss and demand for a legislation to protect land belonging to Sherpa Community under Revenue Order No. 1 tomorrow.
The Solidarity Meet will be held tomorrow at Singtam.  Passang Sherpa, Spokesman of DSA said that the entire Sherpa community has been demanding that their land be protected under revenue order number one but all in vain.
