Some shop owners in the Star Cinema premises in Gangtok are aggrieved that eight of them have been asked to close their shops. Some shops which had been sublet have been sealed. The building is one of the oldest constructions in the town and the government has already issued a notice to dismantle it. “If they want to build a car plaza or any other complex we are ready to co-operate; but the government should evict all, not only us,” one of them said.
“Much after the expiry of the time provided to all parties, a team of officials from all departments in the presence of Sub-Divisional Magistrate Headquarters reached the spot on November 5,” an Urban Development and Housing Department official said. “Locks with seal have been put in the main gate for two shops and restaurants operating in the first and second floors and for six shops on the ground floor operating on the road side. But, inventory could not be made as some shop owners had already left after locking their shops.
