A high level delegation of Sikkim Government led by Energy and Power Minister D.D. Bhutia and Human Resource Development Department Minister R.B. Subba on Thursday called upon Union Minister for Human Resource Prakash Javadekar in Delhi.
The meeting was convened for finding out a suitable and permanent solution to National Institute of Technology, Sikkim, land issue. During the meeting, a letter of Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling to Javadekar was also handed over.
Sri Javadekar assured the delegation from Sikkim that he himself will visit Sikkim shortly and would send a MHRD empowered committee to finalize the site of NIT before his visit. Javadekar also assured that funds for construction of the Institute would be expeditiously released.

NIT students agitating for a permanent campus are, however, planning to go to Delhi with their demand.  Anushree, a B.Tech second year student of NIT, said:”This is NIT but it's unbelievable we are devoid from the basic facilities here. Since the last many weeks we are trying to highlight our problem to the State and Union Government but there is no response. Every institute have got their own campus but we have to fight for our permanent campus.” (EOIC)
