The student wing of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, the main opposition party of Sikkim, has demanded relaxation of admission norms in the Sikkim Central University.
“If our students are not getting admission in our own Sikkim Central University, then what is the use of the university, why did we give our land,” asked SKM Student Front general secretary Sonam Chapel in a news conference in Gangtok on Sunday.
“We joined the Indian Union lately , our students are mostly first or second generation students, who cannot compete with the students of from the mainstream. Hence our students need some relaxations,” Chopel said.
“The government should make changes in the existing rule or should frame a new MOU. They should provide jobs to local people and admission relaxation is a must,” vice president Bhim Kumari Sharma said. “Otherwise what’s the use of the university?”
