Car of ex-MLA's son rams rams into village, 4 die

Four persons died and six were severely injured when the son of a former CPI-M MLA from East Bardhaman district allegedly ran them over in an accident late on Friday night. The incident took place when Hamidulla Chowdhury, the son of former CPI-M MLA from Monteswar Chaudhuri Mohd. Hidayatullah, was trying to flee from some persons whose motorcycle he had rammed into in Kusumgram village in Kalna sub division. No one has been arrested in the case so far.

“Hamidulla was drunk when the accident took place. In a bid to flee from the people who were chasing him, he was driving at high speeds,” said Md. Sayeed who was with Hamidulla Chowdhury in the car during the incident. While fleeing he lost control and allegedly ploughed into nine people who were loading paddy into a tractor nearby. Mr.Sayeed was later detained by police for interrogation.

“While two of them died on the spot, two more succumbed to their injuries at the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital,” said a  police official of Monteswar Police Station. However, police is yet to ascertain whether Hamidulla Chowdhury was driving during the incident. Police have not been able to trace Hamidulla Chowdhury yet. (EOIC)
