Dismantling of 2 of the 4 spans of Majerhat ROB completed successfully before time

Circular Railway train services has been resumed at 9.08 am on Monday as was suspended between Majerhat and Prinsep Ghat since 2 pm of Saturday (January 5) till                 6.00 am of Monday (January 7).   However the work of dismantling 2 of the 4 spans of Majerhat Road Overbridge (ROB) were carried out on war footing, the said work was completed successfully before time at 3.42 am on Monday. (January 7) in place of scheduled of 6.00 am of Monday.
During the traffic and power block Circular Railway services between Majerhat and Prinsep Ghat were short terminated at Prinsep Ghat as the services were suspended. Goods trains to and from Kolkata Port was also suspended due to traffic and power block.
It is stated that the Railway Engineers employed the State of the Art skill for dismantling the railway portion of the ROB which is about 70 m in length. Diamond cutters were used to separate the girders.  Two rail cranes (140 tonnes) and railway wagons were used to offload girders and shift these from the site. Problems like few girders almost snapping in the middle were encountered during dismantling which required manoeuvring lasting for hours. Normal EMU services were maintained during the entire block period on the Sealdah-Ballygange –Budge Budge section.
