Govt panel finds Apollo guilty

The five-member committee that was formed by the state government to probe into the death of Sanjay Roy of Dankuni following alleged negligence of Apollo Hospital, has found the hospital indulging in negligence and also pressuring the family of Roy for paying money to the hospital that was not due to them.

This was today revealed by R S Shukla, principal secretary, health and family welfare at a media meet at Nabanna.
Shukla also said that the government has set up a three-member committee of eminent doctors which will probe into all aspects of the report that was filed today and suggest actions against the hospital. The committee comprising Gopal Dhali of SSKM hospital, Madhusudan Banerjee, former professor of Calcutta Medical College and Biswaranjan Satparthy, director of health has been asked to submit its report within 72 hours, the official further said.

``The committee will examine the report of the earlier committee thoroughly and pinpoint responsibility,'' Shukla said.
Earlier following the furore that Roy's death triggered across the state, the state government formed a five-member committee of doctors headed by Partha Pratim Mukherjee of National Medical College. Other members include Gautam Ghosh of RG Kar Medical College, Jayanta Dasgupta of Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, Shampa Dutta of RG Kar Medical College  and Ashok Bhadra of Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. The committee submitted its report today at Nabanna.
