Kolkata Police starts new project to empower the underprivileged city girls

Kolkata Police starts 2nd Venue of “Damini” an initiative of community policing wing, Kolkata Police for women empowerment through football coaching on Saturday. MLA of West Bengal Legislative Assembly Mala Saha inaugurates the project Damini by kicking football on the office ground of DC, North Division of Kolakata Police.
Girl children within the age group 10 to 16 years who have been receiving educational and healthcare assistance under “Nabadisha” a project run by the city police have been chosen for the latest edition of project Damini. The project Nabadisha has been providing assistance to the street children of the city till 1997. Among the beneficiaries of this ongoing project, girl children with age group 10-16 years will be identified and subjected to football  coaching with a view to develop their confidence, social awareness and at the same time to identify the football talents. In a word the project aims at empowering the underprivileged girls of Kolkata who are most vulnerable to social evils. The 1st venue of Damini was inaugurated on May 2 at Park Circus Maidan in which more than 60 girls getting assistance under Nabadisha project were selected for football coaching.
Girls belong to the lesser privileged section of the society often become prey to various social evils like child marriage, human trafficking, domestic violence, rape and many other forms of offences.  Well-known NGO Sreeja is assisting the Kolkata Police to execute the project in a successful manner.
