Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today expressed gratitude to the people as her Trinamool Congress-led (TMC) government completed six years in power.

"Today is 20th May. In 2011, on this day, our government came to power in Bengal, ushering in a much-needed change and ending 34 years of Left Front misrule," she wrote on Facebook. The first TMC ministry led by Banerjee took oath on May 20, 2011 and was sworn in for a second time on May 27 last year after retaining power in the assembly polls. "On this auspicious day, I convey my heartiest greetings, best wishes and gratitude to Ma, Mati, Manush. Our resolve is to serve you better and better and make Bengal No. 1," Mamata added.

Two flower-bedecked tableaux, showcasing achievements of the state government, were today flagged off from state secretariat Nabanna to spread the message of unity and amity on the sixth anniversary of TMC government. State finance minister Amit Mitra and Education minister Partha Chatterjee flagged of the two tableux which were taken out spreading the message 'Ekotai Sampreeti' (unity is amity). Baul singers strummed folk songs in the Nabanna compound and 'Dhakis' (traditional drummers of Bengal) drummed up beats in the presence of ministers and other dignitaries.

The two vehicle-turned-tableux carried campaigns about popular schemes of the government namely 'Kanyashree', 'Khadya Sathi', 'Sabuj Sathi', 'Somobyathi' and others. The tableaux will be travelling around the districts till June 20 spreading the message of integrity. In similar programmes, two pairs of tableaux started from the offices of each District Magistrate today with five folk artistes performing atop each. The popular folk form of different districts - such as Adivasi Dance, Gambhira, Rainbese, Chou dance - will be performed as the tableux will visit different parts, an Information and Cultural Affairs department release said.
