Metro Railway highlights initiatives taken

A seminar on safety was organised at Metro Rail Bhavan on January 15 where emphasis was given on proper functioning of railway points & crossings, maintenance of track beds & track fittings, prevention of fire, smoke and checking of electrical equipments.
As a pilot initiative for safety measures, Metro Railway, Kolkata has introduced emergency staircases/footsteps in four coaches of an existing AC Metro rake for quick evacuation of passengers during emergency.
Metro Railway has given several special drives to maintain cleanliness in Metro Stations. Swamijis of Ramakrishna Mission and students of school also participated in the cleanliness drives.
In addition to this, the following passenger amenities have been undertaken for the benefit of the passengers: 
Metro Railway was having no stabling line or platform across the stations. One extra line with a platform has been commissioned at Tollygunge and the same facility has been replicated at Noapara station. These two lines along with two platforms will go a long way in improving the flexibility and mobility in train operations. It has undertaken spectacular initiatives to install 3 Solar Plants at Tollygunge, Kavi Subhash & Noapara of 500 kWp capacity.
In order to encourage cashless transactions, POS machines have been provided at all the stations under the franchise of SBI. Two old and NGEF rakes were completely rehabilitated with improved passenger amenities and put into commercial service. Few more such rakes are in the active pipeline for rehabilitation.
One new AC plant of 200 tonnes capacity has been commissioned on May 26 2016 at Chandni Chowk Station to multiply the comfort level of the passengers and the Second lift has been commissioned on the DN platform of Dum Dum Metro Station for the benefit of the Metro commuters. (EOIC)
