Metro Rly, Kolkata celebrates 33 years of its “maiden run”

Metro Railway, Kolkata celebrated its 33 years of service to the nation today.  Thirty three years ago, on this day, the 24th October,1984, Metro Railway, Kolkata, the first underground Railway of the country  started its maiden run  from Esplanade to Bhowanipur ( now Netaji Bhavan) covering 4 stations.
To commemorate this day, various programmes were undertaken in association with the Metro Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (MRWWO) and NGOs.
Dr. Anita Chaubey, President and members of MRWWO, organised a Metro ride for underprivileged children from Park Street to Noapara and back where the children participated in cultural programmes and enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
Eminent percussionist, Mollar Ghosh, renowned sitarists, Surmani Sujoy Basu, music director & guitarist, Pratik Karmakar, performed in this programme and film artist, Pallavi Chatterjee was also present on this occasion. (EOIC)
