Metro Rly’s energy-saving measures to reduce cost of energy

11 Dec 2018

Metro Railway has undertaken a number of measures to reduce energy consumption as well as electricity bill. As part of these initiatives, nine Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) drives have been commissioned in nine escalators at five Metro stations which will help to save Rs. 25 Lakh energy bill annually. 81 Variable Voltage Variable Frequency drives (VVVF) for controlling of tunnel intake and exhaust fans which facilitate air ventilation in tunnel and different stations are in commissioning level. These will reduce energy consumption when the fans will be controlled by VVVF drive rather than conventional system. Energy saving will be to the tune of 1.2 Million Unit (Rs. 0.84 crs. / year).
