As major political parties of the hills including the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) as well as the CPM refusing to take part in the all-party meeting convened by the state government on June 22 at Siliguri, questions have been raised about the fruitfulness of the meeting to be chaired by state home secretary Moloy Dey.

Even the political parties which are attending the meeting have expressed scepticism about the efficacy of the meeting. ``We are attending it but we know it is going to be farce. The chief minister has let the situation go out of hands and now she has called the meeting where she herself will not be there. The GJM will not be there, so what's the point in having a meeting. But we are attending it because we thought since the government has called it we should be there and air our views,'' Adhir Ranjan Chaudhury, West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee President told Echo of India.

Echoed Dilip Ghosh, BJP state president: ``It is going to be a futile meeting as the CM will not be there. Since the state government has called the meeting representatives of our district unit will attend it,'' Ghosh said. Incidentally representatives of the party today joined the all party meeting called by GJM where the demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland was raised. CPM MP Mohammad Salim called the whole exercise a useless thing. ``The chief minister called the meeting and then she has left for Netherlands. What important meeting does she have there while the hills are burning,'' Salim told Echo of India.
