Science films instrumental in bringing about societal change: Tripathi

West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi today said science films play an instrumental role in bringing about a change in society.
Inaugurating the 7th National Science Film Festival and Competition here, Tripathi said: "We need to have more science films which play an instrumental role in bringing about a change in society." Elaborating on his views, the Governor said: "National Science Film Festival & Competition will help to foster, strengthen and create scientific temper through screening of popular science films...."It will also give opportunity to science film makers, communicators, scientists, teachers and definitely students to gain insight on science communication," he pointed out emphasising on the role of science film as instruments of social change.
The Governor remarked visual media, especially television and films, play a vital role in the development of a society. Hailing the organisers, Tripathi said "the science film festival provides a platform for talent across the country to showcase their artistic work. The very fact that some of these film makers and directors have been selected to this festival out of a national level competition means in one way your work is being acknowledged." Director Goutam Ghosh, who inaugurated the festival, told PTI making science-based films in feature, short,  documentary format will aid in popularising science among the public and Generation Next.
