12 Feb 2019

In order to generate additional revenue, South Eastern Railway has earned Rs. 209.36 crore from Scrap Sale surpassing the proportionate target of Rs. 192 crore set by Ministry of Railways, well ahead of target date. The Scrap Sale by South Eastern Railway in current year has surpassed the entire sale of last year of Rs. 171.80 crore which is 21.86% more than total sale of last financial year. All these scrap materials have been sold in transparent and competitive manner through E-Auction.
This record revenue has been possible due to regular monitoring of this activity and intense supervision at senior officers level for prompt identification of scrap and offering the scrap for E-Auction.
The major component of the Scrap Sale are  25,262 MT of engineering scrap (which includes scrap rails), 11,004 MT of other ferrous scrap, 1455 MT of non-ferrous scrap, 511 condemned wagons, 172 condemned coaches and seven condemned Diesel Locomotives which have been disposed off so far in current financial year. S E Railway has launched a mission to become scrap free railway.
Earnings from sale of scrap not only increase railway’s revenue but also helps in keeping tracks, stations, workshops and depots neat and clean, SER sources said. (EOIC)
