Governor and Chancellor Keshari Nath Tripathi highly appreciated the stakeholders of the University of Gour Banga during the second convocation of the varsity today. But the UGB authorities cannot relish the appreciations from the Chancellor completely as the BJP, only 12 hours prior to the convocation, has raised serious allegations of huge defalcation against the university officials. BJP has not only demanded the removal of the UGB vice chancellor Prof Gopalchandra Mishra, officiating controller of examinations (COE) Sanatan Das and few other employees but also threatened to launch large stirs demanding CBI probe into the allegations.
Subrata Kundu, the district BJP president, Shyamchand Ghosh, a member of BJP’s national council and Manabendra Chakraborty, the district BJP general secretary met the media persons on Wednesday night. Kundu said, “UGB is now but another name of corruption. With the direct involvement of a section of district Trinamool Congress leaders the VC and the acting COE have resorted to colossal corruption.”
“While the scheduled rate for plywood work according to the existing rate of the state PWD department is Rs 1193 per sq ft, the UGB authorities paid Rs 4700 per sq ft for the same work. Rs 20 lakh was paid for purchasing only 15 computer tables though the tender amount was only Rs 90000. We have documents that there has been embezzlement of at least Rs 6 crore received from Rashtriya Uchchatara Shiksha Aviyan (RUSA),” said Chakraborty furnishing some papers before the media.
The district BJP general secretary also exhibited a mark sheet of an undergraduate examinee who was marked absent initially and later given some marks which the BJP leaders claimed was much lower than the actual score of the student.
“VC himself has been running the varsity at his will in connivance with the acting COE and some of the employees. There has been no permanent registrar and COE in the UGB. Those posts have been deliberately kept vacant so that the plundering can go on without check,” the district BJP president said.
He claimed that only a probe by the CBI after removing the VC and the COE would reveal the truth.
Kundu also claimed that they had briefed the Governor about the embezzlement and the huge corruption citing the evidences. “The Governor has asked us to meet him in Raj Bhawan. We would detail him. We would also hold mass convention and go door to door of the citizens to see the end of the gigantic corruption in the University of Gour Banga,” Ghosh, the NEC member of BJP said.
