Boat capsizes in Malda, 4 dead

A boat plying on the Ganga was capsized during a heavy storm resulting in the death of four persons including two minors.
Four others injured and are under treatment at  NTPC Pubarun Township hospita. The incidents occurred near Shimultala ghat area under Baishnabnagar police station on Wednesday night around 7.30 pm. Those whose bodies were recovered this morning are Tahidur Sheikh, 11, Asraf Sheikh,12, Ruhul Sheikh, 20 and Masidur Sheikh, 24. According to the police sources, 10 passengers including the boatmen were going to Gobindapur islet to Shimultala ghat around 7.30 pm after procuring cattle-feed.
As a severe storm hit the small boat, it overturned and all 10 passengers plunged. Two youths managed to swim to the shore themselves. Azahar Sheikh, Bakkar Sheikh, Amirul Sheikh and Mahatab Sheikh were rescued by the locals. They were seriously ill and rushed to PTS hospital. Police said that probe was launched to see if the boat carried passengers beyond permissible limit.
