Colourful rally to celebrate sesquicentenary of English Bazaar municipality

Sesquicentenary of English Bazaar Municipality (EBM) was kicked off with a colourful rally organized by the civic body officials and participated by several clubs and organizations today.
The rally that commenced from Brindabani ground around 4 pm today was headed by the civic body head and MLA Nihar Ghosh, his deputy Dulal Sarkar, superintendent of police Arnab Ghosh, senior officials of district and police administrations, councilors, officials and employees of EBM. Different clubs and organizations also joined the rally that traversed the major roads of English Bazaar to the applause of large number of viewers.
“EBM is one of the oldest civic bodies of the state and the country. It was founded in 1868 and led by eminent citizens from different walks of the society. We are grateful to the chief minister Mamata Banerjee and her state government for patronizing our civic body generously for its development,” Ghosh said.
“We are happy to commence the sesquicentenary of EBM on the eve of the auspicious occasion of the Mahalaya. We are committed to ensure peace and harmony during the festive days as always preached by the Chief Minister,” he added. It has been learnt from sources in EBM that awards and encouragement-grant would be offered to the orgasnizers of Durga Puja who would maintain peace and harmony during the puja days.
