Eid celebrated in all colours across north Bengal

The second largest namaz (prayer) of the state on occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr was held at Naimouza ground of Sujapur area under Kaliachak police station on Saturday. Nearly 110,000 people participated prayer in the ground. The largest namaz in English Bazaar was held at Subhash Pally idgah ground. Hundreds of women organized prayer separately at Bangaltuli area in English Bazaar. Former minister Sabitri Mitra also joined them during namaz.
Pious Muslims were seen embracing one another in happy moods following the special prayer of Eid. English Bazaar MLA and civic body chief Nihar Ghosh, his deputy Dulal Sarkar, former ministers Krishnendu Choudhury and Sabitri Mitra met and embraced the people after the namaz.
Different minority organizations offered new clothes, sweets and food among the poor and orphans today on occasion of Eid.
Sabitri Mitra said, “I join namaz every year with minority women. I am believer in all religions. I believe such religious functions are the occasions to strengthen the communal harmony.”
In Siliguri the hundreds of people following Islam offered namaz in front of Jame mosque at Venue turning. Tourism minister Gautam Deb met greeted the participants of namaz. Traffic was restricted at Venus turning during the prayer.
Border security force (BSF) and Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) personnel greeted each other on occasion of Eid today. At Hili border in South Dinajpur and Chakram border outpost (BOP) the border security personnel of India and Bangladesh celebrated the festival together. Abu Naser Ahmed, commandant of 20th battalion of BGB under Dinajpur sector offered sweets to Akhilesh Sinha, second-in-command of 119th battalion of BSF and his forces. Sinha handed over flower-bouquets to his Bangladesh counterpart.
Two persons died in a road accident at a place under Pukhuria police station while returning to village after attending Eid prayer. Sohel Khan and Alkesh Khan died on spot as two two-wheelers collided head-on. They were declared brought dead at Malda medical college & hospital. Two others were injured in the accident. They are under treatment. (EOIC)
