The university of Gour Banga (UGB) authorities are going to fill the posts lying vacant for over years to speed up the development of the institution. Along with a large number of teachers the varsity may get permanent key-officials like registrar and controller of examinations.
Additional Registrar Sadhan Saha said, “We have got responses for the posts of officers and teachers advertised last month. The necessary process for recruitment would start shortly.”
It may be mentioned that the post of registrar of the UGB has been lying vacant for nearly a decade. The posts of the controller of examinations, deputy registrar and other important posts are vacant also.
According to university sources, the authorities did not previously maintain the 100 point roster while filling different positions. The matter was referred to competent authorities.
After Prof Swagata Sen assumed the charge of Vice Chancellor (VC) in last November, he took initiative to get the 100 point roster authenticated on war-footing.
“Associate and assistant professors would be appointed in different departments of the university,” Prof Saha said.
Incidentally there were movements by teachers and students on different occasions at the university last year. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed her discontent when she visited the district last year.
After the former VC Prof Gopal Mishra resigned, the state government took initiative to restore a good environment at the varsity.
Prof Sen, the VC said, “Presently some important posts are vacant. We are trying to appoint the suitable candidates for those positions quickly.” (EOIPC)
